IRIT BLUZER

The website reconciles a space and time of artistic activity into a moment of observation within the sphere of the web.

A central motif in Irit Bluzer’s work is movement. Movement between performance and painting, between body and spirit, between her mother and her own motherhood, between the political and the personal and between the abstract and the figurative. This movement creates a visual testimony to a mental circumstance. It is expressed in flow, encounter, connection and struggle. It represents the essential relation between one and another. Irit’s movement, art, establishes her connection to herself; a connection that is exposed and total.

Bluzer handles her imagery with gentleness and precision. She places it on the canvas or instead creates it in space, while in both performance and painting a significant connection resides in the essence of the works Self Nude and Stains; in the visibility of the color black on canvas in the painting As Loud As My Cry and the black of space in Coming to You; in the Sisyphean action in performance Writing; and in the Menachem’s Sea series.

Bluzer brings the political back within the boundaries of the personal. Trauma, whether social or individual, is raw material in her work. The confrontation is expressed via the artistic action that takes place within the works, as well as between the works I Am a Palestinian Woman, Perhaps There Is Someone, Wound, Torn and in the juxtaposition of The Portrait of the Artist Who Is a Woman and I Am a Palestinian Woman.

Another connection that takes place in the transitions between the works is between Bluzer’s image of
motherhood in Mother, Rochel, Sura and her real life Mother of Ami and Ido as an artist. This connection is expressed in the desire to contain, process, to touch the pain and to control it.

Curating the website, I have strived to follow this movement of a performance artist who translates emotion to image and image to object.
